The St. Croix Avid Series Panfish Spinning Rod might be overbuilt in the minds of some fishing rod manufacturers. Still, the materials and components used in its making are the reason for an extraordinary 15-year warranty for a panfishing rod. Taking what it has learned with the St. Croix Avid Series, the Avid Panfish Spinning Rod incorporates proprietary technologies and materials for smoother actions, increased strength, and greater sensitivity than you may find in any other bluegill and crappie rod.


Fast actions are a hallmark of the Avid Series Panfish Rod, built using one and two-piece designs on a lightweight SCIII+ carbon fiber blank that is sensitive and durable. Advanced Reinforcing Technology (ART) improves hoop strength. According to St. Croix, it prevents deformities in the rod blank, and a Fortified Resin System (FRS) curing process proves 33% stronger than rods not made with this technique. The rod maker also uses a Taper Enhancement Technology (TET) that goes toward blanks with better actions and improved sensitivity. Acronyms aside, the result is a St. Croix Avid Series Panfish Spinning Rod that should give you years of performance and satisfaction.

    I have the 7’3” Light Extra fast and the 7’ LXF . I feel the 7’ is slightly too flimsy. Which I despise in panfish rods. The 7’ 3” was more to my likes as far as actions. The Elliot Light and Avid walleye Light is more my choice but it’s a very fine line when it comes down to casting 1/32 ounce jigs to a 1/8 ounce or depending on your method and likes.

    I’ve gone strictly to St Croix rods. I currently own two Legend elite panfish 7OLXF rods. This avid panfish 70lxf is every bit as sensitive with a grip that is more ergonomic. The basic differences are grip and eyelets. Both are excellent rods that are high quality with the Avid giving most bang for the buck in my opinion. Warranty is identical. The torzite eyes on the legend elite are a little smoother producing slightly longer casts but very slight. I can own 2- of the Avid panfish for the $$$ of the legend elite. You do the math because the fish won’t care.

    Nice rod. Sensitive but a little tip heavy for my taste but still a light rod. A true extra fast action tip(jigging), that is still moderate when a fish is on. The bottom cork looks bulky in pictures but it isn't and is comfy when casting! Overall great rod. The only thing I found odd was that the guides weren't a traditional round shape. Almost triangular like with smooth ends.. wish they had put better guides than stainless steel for the price point as well.
